I always TRY to keep a theme in each room, but with kids, the theme tends to turn into the traditional “toy room” theme…ugh!

I would say somewhat eclectic. I’m just confused as to what is the best way to decorate this type of home, we live in a tropical area, so I’m not looking to turning it into a southwestern style.

I really like having a single theme in a room. I’m not big the the “eclectic” look, but I know it is very popular these days. Always looks like Goodwill to me.

I agree with Pete. I live with a bit of a collector who cannot resist an interesting lamp. We have more lamps around than most people and guests definitely notice.

Thank you for the pointers, we just bought a condo and now I’m trying to at least get the kitchen and living room decorated nicely so we can have guests over. Although now I regret giving away the lamp we got for our wedding, it would have worked great in the living room.

I love that you mention a table lamp as a key accessories. I’ve always felt that an interesting table lamp and the warm light it gives of can really finish a room nicely.

I really like your point about accessories and lighting. I think that lighting in particular really has the ability to transform a room completely. My favorite technique is to use lots of small lights scattered around the room, rather than one of two large ones. I think this provides more atmosphere, and the subtle shadows adds to the ‘texture’ and feel of the room.
