Home Lamps: The most common styles are Contemporary, Modern, and Traditional. Home lamps will reflect these styles in the following ways:
Contemporary Table Lamps: A Contemporary style of decorating refers to design that is current to the times. Whereas the Modern style may be too abstract for some, the Contemporary Style is comfortable and welcoming. Simplicity, texture, and clean lines help to define a contemporary lamp.
Traditional Table Lamps: Traditional style loosely refers a style that was developed prior to the industrial revolution. Traditional table lamps and lampshades embrace ornamentation and fine craftsmanship. The lampshades for traditional lamps are usually tapered or bell-shaped and may have scalloped edge or other decorative features. This classic look will never go out of style.
Modern Table Lamps: The Modern style has some similarities to the Contemporary style. Modern Lamps are characterized as having clean, simple lines with little or no ornamentation. Some modern table lamps may make use of the latest technological advances in materials such a metals or plastics to make a design statement. Often times, materials are used in a way that is unusual. Modern Lamps will typically use drum shades which have a box like appearance. Color is important. Bold colors or black and whites may be used for modern lamps.

Your description of the different styles of lamps are perfect. I’ve always leaned more towards traditional lamps, feeling that the modern ones are too exotic for my taste. It was nice to see you hitting on the differences so well.
Nothing makes a living room looks original then a unique lamp.

Candles and lanterns need combustion to burn and will pull it from the house. I’ve seen homes that had many health issues and extremely dirty walls, ducts etc all caused by smoke and emissions from candles and lanterns.

I thought Amish folks did not use electricity – you know … candles and lanterns – maybe some kerosene – are “IT’.
I prefer the more traditional style of home lamps as well. The modern lamps make me feel like I am in a different world.

Lighting is a very important factor in decorating and we’ve noticed people putting up our steel kit homes are opting for low wattage down lights in areas of workspace and using lamps to spotlight areas for reading etc inside their homes. These lamps look wonderful and really add some personality.
Thanks for the lamp descriptions. I have been looking for a lamp for my living room for ages and can never find the right one. Thanks for the link to that lamp site. Great selection.
